This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cisco Network Engineer to provide professional services on behalf of a major network equipment vendor.
The Network Engineer will act as the primary technical contact at a prestigious customer location in Gloucestershire.
Provide guidance on Support and Implementation issues related to Routing, Switching, Security and Network Management
Assist the customer with any queries related to the vendors services (including non-technical queries), escalating internally where required
Provide support to ongoing technical issues with a view to preventing the customer from having to raise TAC cases
Where resolution is not achieved the Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring proactive resolution of TAC cases
It is expected that the person will be able to resolve queries related to core competencies, however it is anticipated that this will not always be the case.
Where a query cannot be answered by the applicant the query will be triaged and access provided to the vendors Advanced Services, Business Units and TAC. To fulfill this role access is given to a significant proportion of the vendor’s internal databases, documentation and support processes.
The successful applicant will have previously worked in a network role role, and have demonstrable experience in supporting, troubleshooting, problem solving, fault diagnosis, network administration and technical support of complex Cisco networks.
All applicants must be willing to work on other clients where required, potentially fulfilling design, implementation, test or support roles.
As well as an in depth knowledge of Cisco technologies and systems, the following qualifications, attributes and experience are mandatory
Current Cisco CCIE or CCNP qualification
Must be willing to undergo Developed Vetting security clearance
A solid understanding of networking technologies
Experience of working within a team environment
Good at organising and multitasking
Able to explain technical problems in simple terms to a range of audiences
Have good interpersonal skills and has demonstrated the ability to build good customer relationships
Familiar with technologies and protocols such as TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, ACL, STP, HSRP, VRRP, VLSM, VPCs and 802.1x
Experience with Cisco products - Catalyst switches (6500, 4500 and 3750X), Nexus switches (9k, 7k, 5k, 2k), ISR G2 and ASR router platforms, Cisco Prime Infrastructure
Knowledge of Unified Communications and associated QOS design and configurations
Working Hours and Environment
This role is based on site at the client premises and hours will generally be aligned to a normal working day (0900-1700) However, due to the nature of the environment there will be times when out of hours work is needed. Flexibility with working hours is expected, including being on call should the business require it.
If the successful candidate doesn’t hold DV clearance then they will be employed within the commercial team, primarily working from home and employed as a third line engineer for the NOC or assisting project teams.
